Her Eyes Are Not Quite Blue, Not Quite Brown, Not Quite Green...

This is a mixed media work I have been plugging away at for about 2 months now. It is focused on Carlc. I use found plastic and cardboard as the base, and have included leaves, type-written pages, polaroids, photographs, house paint, spray-paint, lead, white-out, permanent marker, paint, pornography, a love letter, foam-core board, a brain print out and some found ply-wood characters to create it.

zounds photography - 2009

i went with my friend carlc to take some photos for the zounds e.p, and while she did most of the shooting of me, i managed to steal the camera for a few shots. here is one i quite like that will feature in the zounds insert. it was taken in the abandoned docs building in wahroonga

Euripides Art - 07/08

this is some art i did for my band euripides berserker. the stencil stayed as a stencil, but smaller, to be used on hessian sacks we had sowed. the drawing was one of 60 or so hand drawn covers i did using permanent marker and spray paint. i later recreated in with the same materials but using 6 or 7 7' and 12' as the base. it resides in the atterton house now. i'll try and get a photo.

backyard martyr - 2009

i did this work recently. it is a comment on the negative way people tend to treat themselves mentally when trapped in a cycle of unproductivity within the home. i will hopefully create some more similar works and create a series with the same title.

nails, steel sheeting, house paint, leaves, spray paint

The story of my life when life was about living - 2008

a work inspired by a love of literature and a line from my favourite staying at home song "chiswell green" from the album reaction heroes. "Its the story of my life, when life was about living". i am hoping to do a installation/construction for this work too comprising of a inca'esque pyramid made from hardcover books with plants growing from it, around two metres tall, at the atterton house in petersham.

hardcover books, 2nd hand books, spray paint, paint, news paper, letter tiles, house paint, hot glue gun, biro, felt tip pen, permanent marker, string

brother in europe - 2008

this is a painting i did of my brother ben as a kind of farewell present before he moved to europe for two years. unfortunately, as he only took a bag with him, he couldn't keep the present. so it is collecting dust in my house now.

paint, permanent marker on canvas

john marx - 2008

i am currently studying journalism, and am less then inspire by the idea of going into that profession. during the course of 2008 i sat through many boring lectures on the field that did little to rouse any enthusiasm, until i saw john marx. john gave a talk about hwo he researched an award winning feature article on russel crowe, he had a no bullshit approach that i really stirred something in me, so as he was talking i did a prelim sketch of him. i had had this canvas for quite sometime and had spent hundreds of dollars of materials on it, each time being unsatisfied and covering it up. john gave me an answer as to what should be on the canvas.

$100's of art supplies, spray paint, leaves, paint, charcoal, texta

Self Portrait Series - 2008

This is a series of self portraits i did while listening to a lot of new records i had obtained during 2008, mainly bear vs shark.

crayon, pastelle, biro, and permanent marker on a4 paper, mounted on black foam core board

These Hands Could Separate The Sky. - 2008

this is a three panel work i did inspired by melbourne band these hands could separate the sky. more specifically it is inspire by their track "to the lighthouse" off their 2007 demo. while the painted score shows a 3/4 time signature, the track is actually 4/4 using triplets. oh well.

spray paint, paint, bitumen, felt tip pen, permanent marker on canvas

Untitled (Woman) - 2008

the idea behind this was to comment on the misogynistic view of women as purely sexual beings, dedicating one of the three panels to a part of said sexuality. top for the brain, middle for the breasts, bottom for the vagina.

paint, permanent marker, ball point pen, spray paint, bitumen, newspaper on canvas

Anamorphic Self - 2007

This was a body of work inspired by mike parr's anamorphic drawings. the idea behind an anamorphic image is that it appears distorted or irregular, but from a certain point of view, appears normal. this work used self portraiture to document my search for such a view point of myself.

mixed media: chicken wire, shellac, oil, bitumen, charcoal, ink, pencil, house paint, woodcuts, lead, paint, lino-cutting tool, newspaper, string, rope, sheet music, nails, scrap wood, canvas.

Art and whatnot

Over the last year or so i have been doing a little bit of art here and there that never leaves the house. As such i am going to start documenting it on this little blog in case any passers by wish to stop and have a look.
